The Forestry Office of North Kalimantan Province in collaboration with Forest Management Unit X Malinau, was held “Socialization on Customary Forest Management Scheme Through Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number 9 of 2021 and Discussion on Preparation for Customary Forest Verification with the Customary Communities in Salap Village” on November 20 – 21, 2024, at the Salap Village Hall.
This event was attended by representatives from the customary communities (Customary Communities of Tahol Putat, Salap, and Seruyung), representatives from Salap Village, Seruyung Village, and Putat Village, representatives from North Malinau District, advisors for the Indigenous People of Malinau (Punan Malinau Empowerment Observer Institute, SASHI Foundation, and Warsi), Regional Technical Implementation Unit of the Malinau Forest Management Unit, and Forestry Office of North Kalimantan Province.
This socialization and discussion activity are so important, as it provides crucial guidance and information regarding the preparation of Land Use Planning and the drafting of customary forest management plans for Customary Communities of Tahol Putat, Salap, and Seruyung, who are preparing for customary forest verification. During this event, it was concluded that the customary forests of these three Customary Communities have fulfilled the technical also legal requirements and are declared ready to undergo the process of customary forest status determination, based on the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number 9 of 2021.
In addition to discussing readiness in terms of requirements, important aspects were also conveyed to the customary communities, particularly concerning their rights, obligations, and prohibitions in managing customary forests, as well as the intensive follow-up needed for the customary forest management plan documents to ensure effective monitoring and control processes in the future.
