With support from the Rainforest Trust, the SASHI Foundation convened a workshop on July 13, 2025, at the Jimbarwana Hotel in Jembrana Regency, Bali, to secure approval for a socio-economic and biodiversity survey. This event marked an important first step toward strengthening social forestry initiatives and advancing the protection of forest areas in Jembrana. The workshop brought together around 115 participants, including representatives of Forest-Adjacent Village Communities, Sabha Wana Kerthi, the Forestry and Environment Office of Bali Province, Jembrana Regency’s Regional Apparatus Organisations (Organisasi Perangkat Daerah – OPD), relevant Technical Implementation Units (Unit Pelaksana Teknis – UPT), as well as the Regent of Jembrana Regency.
The primary objective of the workshop was to secure approval for conducting the village-level socio-economic and biodiversity survey, which will form part of the official report. In addition, the workshop served as a platform to discuss strategies for enhancing biodiversity protection in Jembrana Regency’s protected forest areas.
The workshop produced two key outcomes :
- Formal Approval – Participants signed the official report approving the socio-economic and biodiversity survey, which was later acknowledged and endorsed by the Regent of Jembrana Regency.
- Strengthened Collaboration – Through an open discussion session, community representatives, government authorities, OPD, and UPT provided valuable feedback on forest protection efforts. Key points emphasized included the need for data integration, safeguarding water resources, monitoring poaching activities, and reinforcing the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in protection efforts. This feedback will be followed up through inter-institutional coordination, the implementation of the socio-economic and biodiversity survey in Jembrana Regency, and the dissemination of survey findings in a subsequent workshop.
