Socioeconomic Survey of Forest-Adjacent Villages in Jembrana Regency (December 2025)

As a continuation of the socioeconomic survey from 29 July – 22 October 2025 across 12 forest-adjacent villages in Jembrana Regency, the SASHI Foundation, with support from Rainforest Trust, conducted a socioeconomic survey in Baler Bale Agung Subdistrict, Berangbang Village, and Pendem Subdistrict from 8 – 15 December 2025. The survey implementation across these three areas followed the same methodology, objectives, and data types as the previous survey, which is employing a participatory approach through household questionnaires, interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and participatory mapping (Participatory Rural Appraisal). Data collection involved forest-adjacent communities as respondents, supported by key informants comprising village officials, traditional village leaders, social forestry groups, and subak, with the number of respondents determined according to the Slovin method.

This survey was designed to collect data on community socioeconomic conditions, land use, institutional structures, the distribution of protected species, local regulations, customary sites, and important areas for the community livelihoods. Through FGDs, the information was obtained on protected flora and fauna, institutional relationships, and locations of tradition ,cultural, and economic significance. Key outputs of the survey include : (1) completed and verified questionnaires from households, village authorities, and customary leaders; (2) consolidated data on socioeconomic conditions, land use, natural resources, institutional structures, subak systems, and the presence of protected species; (3) community-identified lists of protected flora and fauna; (4) geospatial (SHP) datasets identifying important points, linear features, and land cover in each village; and (5) village-level layouts summarizing the socioeconomic survey and PRA findings. Moving forward, the socioeconomic survey will be extended to an additional nine forest-adjacent villages in Jembrana Regency.
